Slip and Fall Accident on External Staircase in Apartment Complex (Multiple Cases)

Our client lived on the second floor of an apartment with an external staircase.  The staircase was poorly maintained, the light fixtures had burnt out, there was vegetation overgrowth intrusion, decreasing the width of the staircase, and sharp raw-cut chicken wire wrapped around the railings in an attempt to decrease gap size and make the staircase up to code.  Even the stair risers were different heights, which is in violation of the building code.  Our client was on the staircase one dark and stormy night, and tripped, suffered a fall resulting in serious injuries. Two months later, on the same staircase, she suffered another fall, suffering even more severe injuries.
